Old School VS New School - Business Building 101

Whether this is your first attempt or 20th at growing a home based business you've probably already been exposed to the fact that there are 2 VERY different schools of thought when it comes to growing a business - regardless of what you're marketing.

Up until the mid 90's the vast majority of networkers would host house parties, rent small rooms at the local hotel, create lists of their warm market and all sorts of other "in person" business building techniques.

And, there's nothing wrong with that frame of mind either.

Well...Then the Internet came along and it took a few years for marketers to really "dial" things in. Now, there's really NO need to even leave your home to build a large organization. No viable reason anyway. Don't we sign up into a "home based business" for a reason?

Look, there's NOTHING wrong with either one of these approaches, but most people would rather not leave their home if they had a choice- to grow their business.

Now, we're a bit biased towards the Internet, but that's MEANINGLESS.

Here's why:
Look at the objective difference with these 2 techniques for a moment.

If you're creating lists of your warm market and filling up rooms at the local Howard Johnson's hotel do you think it's realistic to contact more prospects with those venues or would it make more sense to generate leads online and call them?

Look, we're not saying that it doesn't make sense to fill up a room and meet with prospects in person - there's a time and an appropriate place for MOST techniques that are taught in this great industry.

We fill up rooms too, but one must know the appropriate ads to place, in what newspapers to run them and MOST IMPORTANTLY - what do you say when those prospects call you from the ad...

To that end...

Experience is KEY when it comes to building a successful network marketing organization. You can try to shortcut your way to success and you'll make donations all over the place.

There are NO substitutions for walking the walk. Success comes with knowledge of what to do, how to do it and understanding WHY you're doing what it is that you're doing.

Start with the basics.

Create a conference call presentaton. Lead with the product - NOT the opportunity (as we've discussed earlier - that leads to a dismal retention rate and there's ALWAYS a better gig out there somewhere).

Create a prospecting script with a solid interest question that also leads with the product...

Let's say you were marketing a weight loss product, the interest getting question may go something like:

"If I can honestly show you how to safely lose 9 lbs in the next 20 calendar days without drastically changing your diet or running 3 miles a day would that be worth 27 minutes to find out how to make that happen?"

Now, honestly if you're dialing weight loss seekers (that were purchasedfor .25 cents a name or if you generated those leads on or offline) do you think someone in their right mind is going to say no to that question?

Assuming they're sober - probably not.

That interest question can be modified to solve the pain and needs of any prospect in any industry.

You get the jist - success ultimately comes from doing the basic, over and over again - and being persistent.

Once your skill set is built - then one can move on to more advanced techniques and even some hands off business building approaches.

BUT...The foundation MUST be firm first. Everyone wants the shortcut - the easy way. The easy way is to gain EXPERIENCE, do the BORING stuff over and over and over again and build a FIRM FOUNDATION.

That's it.

Stop looking for the sign that flashes "Short cut to your left".

Stop listening to Bob when he explains this "Power Matrix" he's involved with that builds your business for you.

Stop paying attention to Rita at the next regional event when she's at the table telling you how easy it is to have prospects call you by using fancy autoresponders as she pulls up to the meeting in a crumpled up, mufflerdragging, smoke spewing '83 Toyota Corolla.

Ok...'nuf said about that.

We're not trying to vent, but we do have a sincer interest in watching you grow a huge organization. We want you to understand that there is no free lunch. With building a business there is HARD work involved and it does take MASTERY of the basics and building a firm foundation.

Committed to your success,
