Why Most Affiliates Fail… and What to Do About It

Why Most Affiliates Fail… and What to Do About It

Why Most Affiliates Fail… and What to Do About It

Successful Affiliate MarketingWritten by: Beau Blackwell, Community Manager for Clickbank

It’s no secret that out of the hundreds of thousands of new people who decide to try affiliate marketing every year, only a small percentage ever make enough to quit their day job or significantly change their lifestyle. Is it because affiliate marketing is too competitive, too hard for non-techie people, or just not all it’s cracked up to be?

Having met many successful people in the affiliate marketing world, and knowing what I know from working at ClickBank, I don’t believe that any of those are the reasons why most people don’t make it as affiliate marketers.

In my opinion, success as an affiliate marketer comes down to two factors: dedication and perseverance.

Dedication and Desire

If you were seriously thinking about taking up a new craft or skill, something you’d never really done before, and wanted to get good enough at it to make a living, think about how dedicated you’d need to be.

Let’s take golf as an example—if you wanted to make a living playing golf, do you think you could just go out and hit 100 golf balls a few times a week and expect to be on the pro tour any time soon?

No way! Pro golfers hit literally thousands of shots a day, every single day, whether they want to or not—because that’s what it takes to be great. They study the game, they try to identify their faults and fix them, and most importantly, they develop or find a training system and stick to it—for months or years on end. Because that’s what it takes to be great.

According to author Malcolm Gladwell, who studied exceptionally talented and successful people in his book Outliers, found that being in the top tier of almost any endeavor, whether sports, business, or the arts, requires incredible dedication and work. He found that people at the absolute pinnacle of their craft have all put in at least 10,000 hours of work over the years.

Hopefully it won’t take you anywhere near 10,000 hours to become a successful affiliate marketer, but you need to approach your efforts as if it will. Many people buy an Internet Marketing training system, read it and get really excited, then either don’t actually follow the system to the letter, or do it for a week or two and give up if they don’t see results.

People that follow marketing systems to the letter, day in and day out, are very rare. But they are often the people who really succeed, and sometimes even develop their own system that works even better.

Pick a System and Follow It

Over the years, I’ve seen many affiliate marketing training systems, and with a few exceptions, their advice is usually very good. However, the techniques they teach can be tedious, repetitive, and usually take weeks, if not months, to start showing results. Just like golf training, or learning a musical instrument, or anything else that requires dedicated effort and perseverance.

I’ve talked to quite a few affiliates over the years that tell me, “I’ve been doing this for months and haven’t made any money! I’m ready to give up.” Sometimes they’ll even tell me they’re using a training system I’m familiar with, and are disappointed in its results.

Whenever I talk to someone like this, I’ll ask questions like:

  • How many articles have you written and posted?
  • How many niche websites have you built?
  • How many hours did you spend researching a niche and keywords before choosing it?
  • How many backlinks do you actively try to build each week?

Typically, the answer is “Not many” or “I’ve never really done backlinking” or “I picked a niche in a few minutes.” Having seen many of the top training programs out there, I can guarantee that they don’t promise success if you don’t regularly write articles, do serious niche and keyword research, and consistently build backlinks!

It would be like a golf instructor telling you to hit 300 chip shots every day, but instead you only do 10 shots 3 times a week. Can you blame him that you’re not getting any closer to your goal? Or is it a matter of dedication and desire?

Making the Time

At this point, you might be saying, “That’s easy for you to say. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.” For a very small number of people that might be true, but according to the Nielsen Company, the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV every single day. Imagine how much you could accomplish in your Internet Marketing efforts if you used 1 or 2 of those hours each day to focus on the kinds of tasks I mentioned above!

Remember the 10,000-hour rule? Think about how much quicker you’ll get to that level of success if you dedicate your time and focus to becoming great at affiliate marketing, rather than trying it for an hour or two here and there without a real system or plan.

Fortunately for you, with a high level of dedication and perseverance, it’s not going to take a decade of practice to become great, like it does for athletes or musicians. It can be much quicker (though not overnight or in a few weeks). Depending on the amount of time you spend, it could be anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. In the grand scheme of things, to reach your goals and change your life for the better, isn’t it worth skipping some TV every day?

If you’re really serious about becoming an affiliate marketing success, maybe it’s time to ask yourself, “Have I been doing everything I can to make the dream a reality?” If not, there’s no time like the present to start!

3 Steps to Skyrocket Your Sales in 2011

3 Steps to Skyrocket Your Sales in 2011

Written by: Lance Johnson, Guest Author

Skyrocket Your SalesEveryone always wants to start the New Year off with a bang. Imagine I offered you a crisp, fresh, $100 bill for every $50 bucks you gave me every single day in 2011. We’d be instant friends (or at least solid acquaintances).

Not to mention you’d give me every $50 you could get your hands on.

Unfortunately, skyrocketing your conversion rate takes serious work, not to mention some dang good copy. Keep reading and we’ll walk through 3 simple (but not necessarily easy) steps that’ll breathe new life into your copy and boost the sales you’re getting now.

1. Be Picky About Your Prospects

There are around like 266,224,500 Internet browsers in the US alone (Internet World Stats) who spent $156 BILLION online in 2009. Logic dictates that if you grab just a small piece of that massive pie, you’re doing pretty good.

So you pull out the figurative 12-gauge and start blasting away…

Wrong answer.

It’s time to break out your laser… and hit them with a guided missile.

You see, when you know exactly who you want to hit, it’s a million times easier to find that guy and give him exactly what he’s looking for. The reason you want to do this? He’ll pay cash.

The problem is, finding your ideal prospect takes a whole lot of brain-breaking work.

Here’s a cheatsheet to help you figure out who your perfect prospect is. Break out a pen and paper and start writing:

1. Define who your prospect isn’t. E.g. If you’re selling info products on menopause, teenage boys definitely aren’t interested. Same goes for WoW strategy guides and 73 year old grandmothers.
2. Pump your past buyers for demographic information. Setup a free survey somewhere like Zoomerang or Wufoo and ask your list for key information like age, sex, income and why they bought your product.
3. Picture the guy who is really hurting. You want people who are at the end of their proverbial rope, and serious about buying. The guy who is 80 lbs overweight sees the Fat Burning Furnace and thinks “I honestly/desperately/definitely need that.” The guy who is 5 lbs overweight thinks “I kinda want that.”
4. Find the “hidden meaning” in other promotions. Check out sites that have exploded in your niche. Pick through their benefits and pull out what button they’re truly hitting. E.g. “Perfect for someone who doesn’t care about what is actually going on in the world” which translates to “you know what’s going on in the world” and means feeling included and “in-the-know” is important for this prospect.

These four pieces will start getting you inside your prospect’s head. Perfect for adding serious sales volume…

Step 2. Paint Your Prospect’s Picture

Now that you’ve got a rough skeleton of who your prospect is, it’s time to make him (or her) come to life. Your goal is to be able to close your eyes and see your prospect sitting in front of you, AMEX in hand, begging to hit the “buy” button.

To do that you need four categories:
1. Demographic Info
2. Current State
3. Beliefs
4. Desires

Here’s what those might look like for a weight loss prospect:

1. Demographic Info – 37 years old, married, household income of < $60,000, white male. 2. Current State – Knees hurt, feels tired all the time, hates his reflection, is afraid of the beach.
3. Beliefs – Diets don’t work, deep-down there is something wrong with him, exercise is confusing, people don’t like him because he’s fat.
4. Desires – To be skinny with 6 pack abs, to like himself, to have women find him attractive.
The “desires” are the element that just about everyone gets right, but knowing your prospect’s current state and beliefs will put you miles ahead of your competition. With those pieces you make your copy “click” inside your prospect’s head.

Step 3. Make Him An Offer He Can’t Refuse

Now that you know exactly who your prospect is and what he wants, you need to make him an offer that hits every one of his buttons.

To do that you’ve got to pull him back to every tantalizing taste of heaven you’ve given him reading your copy. In other words, you don’t want him to simply see what he could be, you want him to feel it.

For the guy who wants to lose weight that means:
• A chance to walk along the crowded beach and not even remember days when you hated having your shirt off.
• Look in the mirror and be impressed.
• Feel like Brad Pitt when you walk in the room.
• Want to try washing clothes on your stomach – just to see if it works…

Don’t forget, this is the piece that every word of your copy was built up to. This is the climax. Don’t skimp on it. Please don’t rush it.

Now, once you’ve established what all the major benefits are going to smell, taste and feel like… ask for the order.

If you’ve got a guarantee, this is the perfect time for it. Then ask for the order again.

Note:Don’t chicken out or beat around the bush – he wants what you’ve got – tell him how to get it!

Next, start counting the dollars.

The Wrap Up

Most people want to skip the piece of understanding who their prospect is. Wrong answer. The better you know your prospect, the easier it is to sit down and sell to him. Not to mention, by putting serious effort into figuring out who you’re selling to, you’ll be able to make the perfect offer. It’ll be more like giving than selling.

With these 3 steps you can make a New Year’s resolution that will make you money. Keep testing, tweaking. I hope these tips help your copy convert as much as they help my clients and me!

Make Money Blogging

Make Money Blogging

Make Money BloggingOne of the easiest, most popular and profitable ways to make money blogging is to do some paid posting through paid blogging networks. Connecting paying advertisers with bloggers-for-hire, paid blogging networks simply act as a bridge or middle-man.

This is not the same as auto blogging but actually getting paid to blog reviews of other people sites and products. Bloggers are basically paid to write and post their opinions and reviews of advertiser websites, products and/or services. But, because each paid blogging network is different – rules, guidelines and requirements vary.

Being professional and consistent are key in order to build a good reputation for yourself. Make money blogging through paid blogging and posting can earn you a realistic $100 to $500 or more per month with each blog.

To help get you started to make money blogging, follow these steps:

Make Money Blogging Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

* Your own blog or blogs

1. Using Notepad…

In Notepad or other text editor, make a list of 7 to 10 keywords that describe your blog site. Then, beneath this list, create and write a keyword-rich description of your blog. Save it! You’re going to need to copy and paste this information on your applications to paid blogging networks. Trust me, this will save you a ton of time.

2. Browse the following paid blogging network sites:

These folks pioneered the “get paid to blog” concept. Besides being the most popular paid blogging network, I’ve found that they always seem to have the most job opportunities available at any given time. PayPerPost pays bloggers anywhere from $5 to over $200 per completed and approved post.

Although Bloggerwave is a smaller paid blogging network and lists fewer open job opportunties, their site is super blogger-friendly and easy to to navigate. Bloggers here get paid a minimum of $10 for each completed and approved post. Bloggerwave also pays on time and like clock-work.

You’ll like Smorty because they pay from $6 to $100 for each post and they pay-out weekly. A great feature with Smorty is that bloggers are allowed to have multiple blogs so income earning potential is unlimited. The Pagerank of your blog along with a high Smorty smart score determines how much you can earn – up to $100 per post.

Bloggers – get paid to review products and services on your site. You control what you review. You will be paid $20.00 to $200.00 for each completed review that you post on your site.

With LoudLaunch the amount you are paid per post is based on your blog ranking? LoudLaunch allows bloggers to be compensated for distributing our advertisers LoudLaunch press releases. Search through our advertisers latest press release campaigns, select campaigns aligned with your blog, post a Micro Press Release on your blog based on the advertisers campaign, and be compensated based on the exposure your blog can deliver.

Once you are approved to the Blogitive system, you are given access to opportunities from companies to post about their news releases. You are paid per posting. The standard amount is per post is $5. This may vary depending on the sponsor. You must have a PayPal account in order to get paid with Blogitive.

BloggingAds is different. They supply the advertisers, the text and the money, all you have to do is post the ad on your blog. We are looking for bloggers to post one-time ads on their blog sites for money.

List of Blogs continue below…

3. SponsoredReviews.com
A Sponsored Review is an article you write for an advertiser. You review their products and services and then post the review on your blog. Each advertiser has his or her own requirements. Bloggers can earn anything from $10 to $500+ for each review.

Once approved, your blog goes into the assignment queue. The blogsvertise administrator then assigns writing tasks for what our advertisers want you to mention in your blog. The current payout rate for new accounts is $4 – $25 per entry.

If your blog meets our requirements then you can make money blogging in our system and you can count on Payu2blog to deliver that consistent steady income from advertising on your blog.

CREAMaid is a service that lets you meet other bloggers with similar interests, and make money while doing it. Anyone can start using CREAMaid by inserting a CREAMaid Conversation widget inside her post. When your post is selected, you will be able to instantly collect a royalty for your contribution (usually about $5).

Do you own a blog? Blog publishers in the Contextual Links @ V7N Network make cash and get paid by PayPal for simply adding text links to their blog posts. Currently publishers make $10 per link.

LinkWorth is a search engine marketing company that offers a variety of monetization options for bloggers. LinkWorth gives up to 70% of the revenue for its ads.

If you have a blog, you can make money simply by reviewing other websites. You receive 60% of the sale price for each review.

Your blog must have a minimum Page Rank of 3 to be accepted. You get paid a flat fee of $10.00 per post.

Your rate of pay to blog for this company is based on your Google’s PageRank (from $5 to $16 per post).

The process is simple! Register, look for bloggers or advertisers, negotiate back and forth via the messaging system, strike a deal, BUZZ and compensate!

Migrate your existing blog or start a new one . Refer a friend and get 5% of what the friends blog site makes. Promote your blog and get paid.

4. Apply to as many of the above listed paid blogging network sites as possible. Why? Your blog may not be accepted or approved by some companies, so you’re going to want to make sure that you’re getting every opportunity possible to get paid to blog.

After applying, be patient. Some networks have a fast approval process, while others seem to take forever. I’m still waiting on some of these.

5. Write, blog and make money blogging! Good Luck!

SE Sniper SEO Software

SE Sniper SEO Software

google page 1

Buy SE Sniper SEO SoftwareI just recently purchased Casey Costello’s SE Sniper SEO software. What SE Sniper does is simulate searches and clicks on your website pages for your keywords. It does it using proxy servers from many IP addresses and finds your chosen keywords on the search engines of your choice and drills down the search engine to find your site and then clicks on your site.

Those clicks link your pages to your keywords and they climb in rank on the search engines.

It’s important that you get listed & rank high in Google, but also equally important to rank high in Yahoo, Bing, Lycos, and the other major search engines. SEsniper gives you the ability to pick-n-choose which engines you want to target…. nail them all, or just select the ones you are really interested in!

Here’s how SE Sniper work:

SEsniper SEO Software has 2 modes…

Mode 1… Get Listed. – This mode searches your specified search engine(s), for your keywords & your domain together.

Mode 2 (Sniper Mode)… Get on Page #1.
– This mode searches your specified search engine(s), for your keywords, and finds your domain and clicks on it.

SE Sniper SEO Software is easy to install but you have install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 first on your computer for it to work and once you install both programs you must log in as the Administrator on your computer. To run the app as Administrator (Right Click on the SE Sniper icon on your desktop and “Run as Administrator”. Also you can right click on the app, click on “Properties”, then click on the “Compatibility” tab, and at the bottom check to always run as administrator.

If the above doesn’t work.. try this solution a fellow SES user came up with:

Go to Control Panel>User Accounts and Family Safety>User Accounts>(at the bottom)turn UAC(user account control) on or off>turn UAC off, restart your computer.

Once you have it installed and you are ready to start some campaigns, it’s easy to get it up and running. You start by naming and selecting a new campaign, then you add some domain names for your site and add some keywords you want to rank for for each domain.

Proxy Server for SE SniperThen you add some proxies that you can get for free everyday when you purchase SE Sniper SEO Software. Basically, a proxy server is a computer that is connected between your computer and another computer and it is used to keep machines behind it anonymous this way Google sees it as a click coming from another computer with a different IP address. This will get your site climbing the search engines.

You can check your proxies with EliteProxySwitcher.com free proxy tool. It’s a must-have! =) You can see their tutorial here. The app always needs proxies, or it’ll search with your IP, which won’t help at all in getting higher rankings.

Next, you select the search engines you want to rank on.

Then you set variable time delays for the software to wait before starting a new search between the domains, keywords and search engines. You can also select multiple feeds so the software runs faster and you can select variable times to stay on the page after the software clicks on your links from a search engine.

Then you start the program and let it loop. Over time, your sites will start ranking for your keywords.

The software runs in the background, on autopilot. It’s very ‘lightweight’, it won’t bog down your computer’s resources. I’m running it right now, and it’s using “34,144k” of resources. Just to give you an idea of how much that is… My windows mail is using “551,804k”, and my Yahoo Messenger is “80,688k”.

The software comes with a great, well-written PDF manual that explains how to set it all up and Casey’s support is the best I have ever seen. I don’t think this guy ever sleeps. Casey is very well respected on the Warrior Forum and answers his email and forum posts so fast I thought I was on Skype. He has definitely over-delivered on this one and the upgrades that his coder is adding keeps getting better.

Speaking of the Warrior Forum, the thread on Search Engine Sniper is the most popular thread in the history of the forum according to the admins of Warrior Forum.

You also get a copy of Google Dominion as an added bonus that has some very unique and powerful tips to totally dominate Google rankings. Not the usual fluff products on SEO, Google Dominion has some great resources in it.

Today you can easily start boosting search engine rankings to any site, and page, any blog, any affiliate link… well, you get the idea.

Of course, making a single site popular in the search engines is like gold…. but making multiple sites popular… Well, that’s more like owning the search engines! You can do this…with SEsniper.

Another “Power Function” of SEsniper is that you can set an unlimited number of campaigns to run. This means that if you have 1 or 1000 domains that you want to “get popular”, you simply setup the campaign and run it… just one, just a few, or all of them. You Are In Complete Control — You Are Not Limited In Any Way

The program is designed to go into continual loop function… meaning that you have a complete “Set It and Forget It” situation. It will simply continue to run until you stop it.

None of the downside associated with link generators… No popup alerts to stop the program the moment you step away, not blaring music that someone put on their blog to blast you out of the room… none of the headaches, and all of the benefit!

…and best of all… no Terms of Service to violate, so no one gets offended. No one to complain or get mad… This SEO software works directly on the search engines, so there is no “person” to have to deal with, no comments to have to make, basically, no hassles!

Stay tuned for a future post of proven results using SE Sniper SEO Software

How To Get Double Listings On Google

How To Get Double Listings On Google

How To Get Double Listings On Google

by NiCK CartyGoogle Double-Listing

Have you ever noticed indented listings on Google’s SERP or Search Results Pages? Those listings usually stand out and grab the attention of the visitor getting a heavy click through rates. Wondered how to get the same for your site? Here we go.

First, let’s see the logic behind Double Listings on Google SERPs. Actually it’s no rocket science: When two different pages of the same website show up on the same SERP (Search Engine Result Page) then Google would group them together.

Let‘s say for example if your page has a rank of 15 and 20, they would be grouped and shown together; first one with the normal alignment and the next an indented one. Call it a pretty smart move by Google. The main purpose is that Google intends to show results that are both very significant and relative to one another.

Steps to get your page double listed:

Determine the page for which you’d like a double listing. This is the first step where you must get one of your pages already ranked in Google for a particular keyword. Once that is done, you’re simply going to create another page similar to the first page.

Structuring Your Second Page:

Make sure that the title page heading for the second page is very much similar to the first page but not the same as the first page.
For Content, make sure the keyword density in the second page is slightly higher than the first page.

Linking Strategy:

Exchange links between the first and second pages. Ensure that page 1 is linked to page 2 with the anchor text that you would want page 2 to rank for. Again link page 1 to page 2 with the same anchor text. Also, link page 2 to every other places on your website where the first page links to, using the same anchor texts.

Get two or more Backlinks for second page from authority sites (say the article directories or other web 2.0 sites).
Now give it some time for Google to find your second page having significant value as to the first page or confuse itself on finding the right page with the content and group both of the pages for you to get higher click thru rates.

Thanks NICK for this great article. I have double listings on Google for some great keywords and the conversions are super.

Affiliate Marketing Goals

Affiliate Marketing Goals

Smart Goal Setting for 2011Happy New Year everyone! 2010 was an awesome year and now it’s time to plan for a successful 2011.

Reaching your affiliate marketing goals is as simple as planning it out and following through and just as important is having the mindset to follow through. One way to stay focused is to visualize that every little step you do towards building your business is like giving yourself a raise at work.

How To Set Affiliate Marketing Goals

Imaging building 100 sites this year. That’s just 8 or 9 sites a month. Now imagine that each site makes $50 to $100 dollars a month. (some make more some make less) That’s like giving yourself a raise of $450 to $900 a month every month this year! That’s awesome but it gets better. Imagine taking $250/month and paying a full time employee to build sites for you and they build 8 or 9 sites a month for you while you keep doing the same. Now you are making an additional $450-900 – 250 = $200 to $650 / month every month plus the money from your sites for a total of $650 to 1550 per month.

As you can see this can be repeated over and over again to build an online empire. I’m doing it and so can you. Make a commitment to yourself this year to create your own online empire and stick to it. I’ll show you how every step of the way. If you are not already subscribed to my newsletter, sign up now at the top right of this website.
