Traffic Generation Questions

My name is Michael Weir and I'd like to say hello to all the members (since I'm new here). Good to see some recognisable names. I've already found some interesting topics, so I'm getting good value from this Forum.

I set up a squeeze page for my new mailing list 3 weeks ago. This is my current traffic:

Organic Traffic: Listed in all major search engines except Google
Manual Traffic Exchanges: Croc-Ads, Traffic-Splash, Topsurfer, LinkCrews
25 Guaranteed Signups per month: Planet-Traffic (2 so far)
300 Directories Submission: Build-A-Host (hasn't started yet)
Guaranteed Unique Traffic: BlazingTraffic (10,000 delivered slowly over 60 days)
Auto Co-ops: Doctor Traffic, UnExchange, True Co-op - 25,000 hits (hasn't started yet)

My last 3 days I averaged 60-70 unique views, and I just checked Google Analytics and I reach 128 today. I expect it to rise to 200+ next week as a few of the above sources kick into gear. I'm aiming for 300-500 uniques/day in the very near future.

I have 37 subscribers plus 3 who took the free downloads and unsubscribed.

I've been doing my research to try and find services with a good balance between quality and price, and I'm now tending torward Auto Co-Ops. I can afford about US$200-$300 per month for traffic and lead generation, and I would prefer most of it to be automatic.

So, does anyone have any suggestions in case I've missed some good traffic sources?

Now write articles in your field of expertise, and distribute them wherever you can.

Publishing articles in online publications, directories and ezines is one of the most effective and least expensive kinds of website promotion. It is a perfect way to generate interest in your site, and create traffic.

Well written articles can be used to highlight various aspects of your products or services. At the same time you will establish yourself as an authority in your field. And the articles you write and publish today will continue to be available on the web for years to come.

Distributing articles is also an important way to create incoming links. Other websites and ezines publish your articles and in the process create links pointing back to your website.

Why?

Because when you write your article you make sure to embed a link or two pointing back to your site. Often this is done in what is called the "Resource Box" -- a short bio of the author that contains a low key pitch for your products or services.

But writing and distributing articles is not for everyone. It is a very time-consuming activity, and if you are not much of a writer it will cost some money to have someone write articles for you. The online sales process starts with traffic — visitors to your site.

But traffic is not enough. You want to turn some of these visitors into leads. A "lead" is a visitor who expresses an interest by contacting you. This puts them in "most-likely-to-buy" category, and gives you a clearly defined group of people you can target with more specific sales messages.

To capture leads you need a carefully planned strategy. You need to get beyond the usual "send us an email for more information" approach. Simple online forms backed up with autoresponders are perfect for this task. Normally this involves offering some tip or free information course, or possibly a free piece of software. In order to receive the free gift the website visitor must fill in a short form giving you their name and email address. Then the autoresponder automatically sends out a message containing or pointing to the free gift, along with a presentation of your product.

You can also program the autoresponder to send out a series of messages so your promotional pitch is placed in front of them a number of times.

The only way to know if the advertising or traffic generating method you’re using is working is to try different things and then track the results. Then keep using the ones that work and quit using the one’s that are wasting your money and time.

It’s important to track everything you can. Think of every ad, post, email, sigfile, ezine ad, traffic exchange and any other place you put a link to your site, as a test. If you don’t know the results of your tests, how can you improve your results?

Tracking click thru rates is not enough. Make sure the system you’re using has the ability to track not only click-thru rates, but sign ups and sales as well. This way you’ll know if the traffic source is truly getting results.

You may have one ad getting 2000 clicks and 1 sale, while a second ad gets 50 clicks and 5 sales. If the first ad costs 10 dollars and the second ad costs 40 dollars, which ad is more profitable?

Let’s assume that the product we’re selling is the same and makes 20 dollars profit.AD 1 $10 cost 1 sale X $20 Profit = $20 - $10 ad cost = $10 ProfitAD 2 $40 cost 5 sales X $20 Profit = $100 - $40 ad cost = $60 profit

As you can see, the number of hits to a site does not always mean that ad is more profitable.The only way to know for sure is to track results. Once you know what works, put more of you advertising budget into the most productive methods. The same $40 spent on ad one that would produce about four sales could be spent on ad two and make about twenty sales.

Twenty sales X $20 profit = $400 - $40 ad cost = $360 profit on the same $40 investment!Can you see why it’s important to track everything? If all you tracked were the total clicks you could never be sure which ad they were coming from or where people were buying from.

It would be easy to mistake the ad with the most hits as being the ad people are buying from and you could be wasting money. Money that could be redirected into more profitable and effective advertising as soon as possible will make you more in the long run.

With that said, you want to be sure that you track your results long enough to be accurate. A hundred times is not enough.

For visitors to your site 3000 to 5000 visitors will give you a pretty good idea if your site is doing what it’s supposed to do. ie; ( get sign ups or make sales). Banner impressions would take around 20,000 to 50,000 impressions to get an idea if it’s working. If it gives you good results keep doing it and if not change or remove it.

Know your return on investment for each traffic source. The best and only tracker to use is one that tracks return on investment for you and will also track total clicks, total sign ups and total sales. If it takes this information and automatically reports the percentages of total clicks to total sign ups and sales and your total return on investment then you have a winner as far as tracking goes.

Once you find some effective traffic sources that give you a good ROI, pump up your budget on these sources by redirecting the money spent on ineffective sources. Then go looking for new sources.

Discover Secrets To Maximize Results From Traffic Exchanges

Traffic exchanges are a fantastic resource for generating free website traffic if you know how to use them properly. Most people wrongly assume that putting their affiliate URL on a traffic exchange and surfing for credits so their site gets seen is all they have to do. Then magically hits will appear to their site and sales will start to roll in.

Actually, like most things, there’s a wrong way and a right way to use traffic exchanges for maximum results. Below are some examples on how to properly make use of the traffic exchanges.

First thing to do is to
get a URL rotator. These allow you to combine multiple URL’s from your different programs into one single URL. This single URL is the one you’ll be using to promote on the exchanges. Adding your single URL to multiple exchanges makes it easier to keep track of. If you want to make changes in the programs you promote later, you can add or remove the URL’s in the rotator and not the exchange itself.

There are many free places to get a rotator on the web and some of the exchanges offer free rotators as well.

Once you have your rotator set up, you can now join the traffic exchanges and add your new URL to their sites. Joining the ones with the most active members will expose your site to more people, so look on the exchange site for stats about the site. Specifically, look for how many active members the site has. The more members the better.

Always track your results on each traffic exchange. This is most important. Make sure the system you’re using has the ability to track not only click-thru rates, but sign ups and sales as well. This way you’ll know if the traffic source is truly getting results.

It may seem like a lot of work to track every click, sign up and sale on every individual traffic exchange, but consider this. If you’re spending an hour a day surfing for credits and get no clicks from one exchange while getting fifty from another, wouldn’t you like to know that information so you could spend more time with the better of the two? Of course you would! How would you know this information if you didn’t track it? You wouldn’t.

You would be amazed how many people still do not track everything. This one piece of information you would have discovered, if you tracked your business, could save or make you lot’s of money.
So track.

Make sure you’re making full use of each benefit that each exchange offers. That does not mean you have to pay to upgrade on all of them. Just make sure you add your banners, text ads and start referring people to join in your downline.

Using a browser that allows you to open multiple pages so you can surf more than one traffic exchange at the same time is mandatory if you’re manually surfing for credits. This way, while waiting for the timer to run to earn your credits, you can open another page in your browser that you’ve pre-loaded with another start page of the next traffic exchange that you’re surfing and click to earn credits there.

Continue with next one and the next one until you return to the first one you opened. By that time the timer has reached zero and it should be ready to start again. You can earn credits on multiple traffic exchanges at the same time this way and earn credits faster. Be sure to teach your downline the same thing so you’ll both earn credits faster.

The biggest mistake people make on traffic exchanges is promoting their main program without a way to capture the visitors contact information.

Imagine a traffic exchange as a meeting place online where everybody there wants something from you, like to join their program or buy their product. Now imagine that you are there in that crowd, but you are giving something away for free. Something that crowd needs and all you are asking for is a place to send it to them. Do you think you would stand out in that crowd?

Yes, you would. People would line up for you. So instead of promoting your program or product to a person viewing your site, who will either take it or leave it, try giving them something they want for nothing other than a place to send it to them. For only their email address and name. Then make good on your end and give it to them, free.

I’m often asked, “How can you make money giving things away for free”? Good question. The answer is you don’t. You make money by giving something of value to those that value what you’re giving. Giving something of value first, builds trust and will build a list of people interested in what you have to offer.

Do you know how valuable that list is? Immeasurable!

In time that list will join your programs, buy your product, build your downline, refer business to you and keep being your best, loyal customers for years. All because you gave them something of value to them first and consistently kept your promise to them. You can find all kinds of things to give online that cost you nothing!

In exchange for your free gift of valuable information the visitor will give you their name and email address. This contact information is the gold you are looking for. Behind that name and email address is a person. Building a relationship with that person, if done right, could be very profitable.

They will come to trust you and look to you for advise and they will buy from you too, once they get to know you.

Now imagine you’ve been doing this consistently for awhile now and you’ve collected a list of two thousand names of people that have been receiving your emails over the last few months and some of them have joined your programs. Some have emailed you back and even talked with you on the phone. They have questions. They are looking for solutions to their problems. They are beginning to feel like they know you.

You have a whole list of people asking you to solve a problem for them. Can you see how much more valuable that is then just getting a few sales or sign ups months ago when they just saw your site on a traffic exchange?

Can you see how much easier it is to have people looking to you to solve their problems then to try to chase after people to sell them your program? You would know exactly what to offer them because they would tell you exactly what they want.

So use the traffic exchanges wisely by always promoting a capture page and offering a free gift in exchange for their contact information. There will be time enough later to make a sale. Build trust and value first and keep a customer for life.

Essentials To Your Success

Define your hearts ultimate desire!

I don’t care who you are or what your ultimate goals are - all of your successes in life steam from one source, your desires!

You have to have a crystal clear idea of what you desire before you can do anything else. This is something that must come from deep within.

It’s simple, the stronger your desire and the clearer your vision and understanding of your desire the larger your successes will be.

If you’re here then I would wager to say you have a pretty strong desire to grow a large MLM organization. This is a great place to start. Ask yourself why you want a large MLM organization and get to the base of why you hold this desire so strongly.

But I have to be honest, if your at this point reading this guide and you honestly only have a mediocre desire to change the way your Network Marketing Business is going then I promise you that you will meet with mediocre results with using the information contained here.

The first thing that you must do if you desire to have the same or even better results than I have had is you must define your ultimate desire for your network marketing business and hold onto it with the deepest faith that you will ultimately fulfill this desire.

Once you are able to do this, things will get a whole lot easier.

Be Persistent!

Next you must be persistent in your efforts. To make it simple, don’t ever stop until you have achieved your ultimate desire. If you make a mistake or if something doesn’t work for you, just change directions and try something else. Ultimately if you remain persistent I guarantee you will find success.

The result of persistence is high productivity.

Become Highly Productive

All success is a mere function of productivity. The more productive you are the more success you will see.

The Art of Internet Marketing For Generating Daily Traffic

Caryn makes a good point in her article below. Sometimes people get overwelmed building their online business and can't see the forrest for the trees. Her small list of tasks at the bottom of this article is all I've ever done to generate tons of targeted free traffic to my sites. The catch is you have to do it consistantly everyday for an extended amount of time for it to work, but it works...

Zen and the Art of Internet Marketing

Mastering an Internet marketing strategy can be chaotic and frustrating. Using the age old wisdom of Zen, we can calm our minds and master Google AdWords at the same time.

It’s 8:30 pm. and you’re going through your well-intentioned mental check list. Kids in bed – check! Perry Marshall’s Definitive Guide to Google AdWords handy with highlighter ready to go – check! Time to set up some smokin’ hot AdWords campaigns and start watching the money roll in! After you login to your Google AdWords account you start utilizing your Internet marketing strategy and start looking up a few killer search engine keywords to clobber everybody else and rule on Google.

But then slowly it starts to happen and you don’t even realize it…

One of the keyword results jogs your memory about a podcast you wanted to get uploaded. So you quickly toggle over to Traffic Geyser which you use to upload videos onto the Internet, thinking how smart you are to start the upload so it can be cookin’ in the background while you get your ad campaign set up. Once you go to browse for your file on your local hard drive you see the video you did yesterday that just needs the final titles of your URL edited in and then it’s ready to be uploaded too so you quickly open your movie maker software to make that quick change. You’re patting yourself on the back thinking, “Dang! I’m SO efficient to be able to upload both of these files at once!”

And so it continues...

As you edit your MySpace URL inside your movie you’re reminded of a quick tweak you wanted to do on your MySpace profile so you pop over to make the change. Only Internet Explorer 7 locks up on you…again. You spend the next 2 hours troubleshooting your computer reading Microsoft Technet articles, running Spyware checks, and reinstalling Java. Before you know it it’s midnight and you STILL don’t have that ad campaign done!!!!
Sound familiar?

It can be so frustrating and overwhelming trying to master Internet marketing. Trying to figure out the process often feels like trying to understand a complicated and esoteric Zen koan. It seems like you take one step forward; two steps back. There are a few very important lessons to be learned here, though. The first one being, at least you are taking steps!

However, not all action is equal. One of the most important things to master in this business is your mind. According to the great Buddhist teachers, “monkey mind” is the endless chattering in your head as you jump in your mind from thought to thought. Eventually, you start to feel like your thoughts are spinning in circles and you're left totally confused - much like an evening of unfocussed Internet marketing!

Master your mind and it will become your ally. Master a focussed marketing game plan, and it, too, will become your ally.

Set big goals initially and break them down into smaller daily goals. WRITE THEM OUT and be realistic. It’s much better to have fewer goals that actually get done than to have so many that they just add to the discursive thoughts and overwhelming feelings. For example, a big goal would be generating 200 leads per week. Break it down into daily action such as:

1. Monday, write 3 articles and publish them
2.Tuesday, make 3 videos and upload them
3.Wednesday, place 5 classified ads
4.Thursday, post at 5 different forums
5.Friday create 5 new ad campaigns.


Track it all and adjust it until you start bringing in the numbers you want and build up your activity accordingly.
Most importantly, be mindful of the task at hand. When you are writing ad copy, write ad copy. When you are editing videos, edit videos. When you feel the urge to switch tasks, acknowledge it, but then go back to the task at end. Stay focussed and start marking things off your written list. Before you know it, you will really start getting things accomplished that build a foundation you will benefit from for a long time.

Do you stumble around trying to remember what you told the last guy who asked that question? Or do you have a clear, precise and memorable answer that you can recite back to them in one or two sentences.

It goes without saying that your clarity or confusion will be reflected in your website promotion.

Make it one of your primary objectives to develop a clear explanation of your product or service, and your website promotion will fall nicely into place as a result.

2. Promote your product with powerful copy
If you want your website to create sales, then the job of your most important pages is to get your primary selling message across quickly and powerfully before your impatient visitors click on to another site.

For your people audience you must get to the point quickly and precisely, and with sufficient emphasis to impress your visitors that you know what you are talking about.

The search engines also demand a clear product definition and clear product descriptions. But in this case the result should be search engine optimized copy. This is because the search engines do not read between the lines. They look for clear indications of what your pages are about. And they make their decisions on the basis of "keywords".

Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers Into Friends, And Friends Into Customers

Are you guilty of proposing marriage to multitudes of strangers who don’t know you, and who, quite frankly, don't give a darn? Here's why an expensive suit and designer shoes WILL NOT automatically turn you into a Master Marketer....

I’m currently reading a book by Internet marketing pioneer Seth Godin – the founder of 'Yoyodyne' (later bought by 'Yahoo') and the creator of 'Squidoo' -- and there's an analogy I'd like to share with you from the book that’s sure to put a smile on your face.

Even if you’re familiar with this illustration, it's such a gem and applies so well to what we are dealing with in our industry right now that I'm sure you can stand to hear it again :-)

The following is from chapter two of “Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers Into Friends, And Friends Into Customers”, and this particular segment is called, “The Two Ways To Get Married.”


I'm quoting:

"The Interruption Marketer buys an extremely expensive suit. New shoes. Fashionable accessories. Then, working with the best database and marketing strategists, selects the demographically ideal singles bar.

Walking into the singles bar, the Interruption Marketer marches up to the nearest person and proposes marriage.

If turned down, the Interruption Marketer repeats this process on every person in the bar.

If the Interruption Marketer comes up empty-handed after spending the entire evening proposing, it is obvious that the blame should be placed on the suit and the shoes. The tailor is fired. The strategy expert who picked the bar is fired.

And the Interruption Marketer tries again at a different singles bar.
If this sounds familiar, it should. It’s the way most large marketers look at the world. They hire an agency. They build fancy ads. They “research” the ideal place to run the ads. They interrupt people and hope that one in a hundred will go ahead and buy something. Then, when they fail, they fire their agency!

The other way to get married is a lot more fun, a lot more rational, and a lot more successful.

It’s called dating.
A Permission Marketer goes on a date. If it goes well, the two of them go on another date. And then another. Until, after ten or twelve dates, both sides can really communicate with each other about their needs and desires.

After twenty dates they meet each other’s families.
Finally, after three or four months of dating, the Permission Marketer proposes marriage.

Permission Marketing is just like dating. It turns strangers into friends, and friends into lifetime customers. Many of the rules of dating apply, and so do many of the benefits."

A couple of pages later, as he goes more into detail on what he calls “the five stages of the dating process”, Godin says (-- and, again, I'm quoting):

"The Permission Marketer must work to reinforce the incentive, to be sure that the attention continues.(...)
Along with reinforcing the incentive, the fourth step is to increase the level of permission the marketer receives from the potential customer..."


( And here’s the part that really cracked me up :-)


“Now I wont go into detail on what step of the dating process this corresponds to, but in marketing terms, the goal is to motivate the consumer to give more and more permission over time...”


End quote.

(Godin then goes on to talk about what types of “permissions” a marketer can obtain from his customer; permission to gather more data about them, permission to offer a new category of product their consideration, etc., etc., and about how the marketer uses the permission he has obtained to get the customer to eventually say, “I do”….turning permission into profits.)

Pretty humorous, huh?

Leveraging Marketing Tools To Grow A Thriving MLM Business

So many people looking to start a MLM or home-based-business think they have to become a door-to-door sales person, telemarketer, or an Amway rep giving endless presentations to make any money.

That’s not the reality at all. These things do work but there’s an easier way.

Here the rule is to build a successful MLM business: We sort and market. We do not sell!
Selling only turns people off and all they want is to get as far away from you as possible.

There are selling superstars that jump in with two feet and sponsor people like crazy. They come out of the gate fast and sponsor 20-40 a month and even though if feels like you won the lottery, within three months all those new reps will start quitting faster then they can sponsor new reps.

Why?

Because people can not be duplicated and the new reps sponsored by a superstar recruiter can’t do what the superstar did and begin to believe they are not cut out for owning a MLM business. The superstar makes it look so easy that they begin to feel frustrated or not qualified to build a business of this sort.

People will never be duplicable but systems are. This is why having a successful, proven system that is duplicable is very important but it is only part of the equation. The other part of the equation is you.

You do have an important part to play in building your MLM business because people are buying you just as much as your opportunity. Do you offer something of value to this person that will help them gain power by associating with you?

True leaders have invested time and money learning the skills needed to succeed in their business of choice regardless of what business it is and can transfer their know-how to someone in a way that allows them to get successful results faster then they did. That’s valuable to someone wanting to learn that skill.

But selling is not the same as marketing so how can you tell when you’re selling?

As soon as you start explaining anything about your business, you are selling. If you start to talk about the price, the ingredients, the compensation plan, the background of the founder or the product, you are selling. Anything more than the name of the company or product or one testimonial is selling.

Do Not Do That!

Think of yourself as a professional promoter who’s only job is to hand out information about an incredible business opportunity or product and to get out marketing tools to as many people as possible because these marketing tools do the work for you. The tools sell the business or product and you only sell yourself as a leader.

If you put a city kid on a tractor up against an old farmer with hand tools, who do you think would plow the most land and harvest a bigger crop? The city kid because he has the use of better tools that give him an advantage over the experienced farmer. Marketing tools do the same thing.

Some people complain that they have to spend money on tools but these people do not get it at all. Education costs money and tools cost money and the right tools put together with the right education and a strong reason why you want to be in business in the first place can make you a fortune.

Think of it like this. No matter what tool your business uses; brochures, CD’s, DVD or postcards, it makes you money and will do the selling for you. Most people do not like selling but they still continue to sell, sell, sell.

Let the marketing tools do the sorting and selling for you.

For example, a DVD presentation that cost let’s say ten dollars per DVD is worth hundreds or thousands more than ten dollars.

Why?

First, it will do a sales presentation much better then most people can and it will do it the same way every time, anytime and anywhere. Secondly, imagine that your DVD is an employee that works for your company. If it shows a hundred presentations that are 20 minutes long how much is your employee getting paid? Ten dollars divided by 100 times equals ten cents per twenty minutes or 30 cents an hour.

What if you had 100 DVD’s doing that everyday? And it made a sale of say 10 dollars one third of the time. That’s 330 dollars a day or ten thousand dollars a month. 100 DVD’s that cost you 1000 dollars would be a bargain. Or you could save your money and give 100 presentations daily yourself. Do you see why having the tools are worth the investment?

Don’t waste time with people that do not get it. Forget about the neighbor or friend that did not see what you are so excited about. You are not sorting to get their approval, you are sorting to find people who get it and can see how using these tools they can grow a successful MLM business. People that will go out and grow their business and find others to do the same.

All you are doing is giving each new person you expose your MLM business opportunity to the chance to say yes or no. The more you do this, the more successful you will be. Once they start, give them the tools to get the job done correctly instead of trying to turn them into sales superstars or product experts.

Structuring Of Email Marketing Campaigns

Email marketers have a huge impact on whether their messages will be considered spam and may escalate into complaints and accusations.

With careful structuring of email marketing campaigns, marketers can significantly lower their unsubscribes, minimize their complaints and increase the responsiveness of their lists.

Below are several recommendations that I have found to be instrumental in achieving these goals.

1. Use the confirmed opt-in subscription model.

Confirmed opt-in requires your subscribers to confirm their intention to subscribe to your mailing list before you can deliver your information to them.

Switching to the confirmed opt-in model is the single and most important step you can take to prevent email abuse complaints.

IP and time stamp of the actual confirmation (i.e. a person who clicked on the confirmation link)

A reputable email marketing service provider will automatically archive the proof for you, and take care of the complaints on your behalf.

It should be noted that with the unconfirmed opt-in model you leave yourself vulnerable to attacks, joe-jobs and spam accusations.

By confirming your subscriptions you will have cleaner, more responsive lists that are more targeted, generate significantly less complaints and unsubscribes, and contrary to what the urban myth is — do not negatively impact sales.

2. Identify yourself in your email messages.
Many of the complaints are caused by the fact that the subscriber doesn’t recognize the sender and automatically assume that the email is spam.

You can combat this by adding clear information that identifies you and your company in the beginning of your message, and reminds your subscribers of who you are and what they signed up for.

When you do this, make sure that you don’t say “This email is NOT spam” — people will assume it is.

Instead, you could try something like:

Hi Joe, You have signed up for my free email course “How generate responsive leads” a week a go at my site: http://shop4dreams.magneticsponsoringonline.com

I was wondering… have you had a chance to review the first lesson and give it a shot?…

By identifying yourself clearly to your subscribers you are significantly reducing the chance that they will unsubscribe, complain or click on “This is Spam” button.

Another important aspect is to include your company name and address towards the end of your message.

This is necessary to comply with the CAN SPAM legislation, but at the same time it provides an important information to your subscriber and may result in lower complaints.

3. Ensure that your emails don’t look like spam.

A lot of complaints and unsubscribes can be avoided if email marketers structure their messages appropriately.

Here are a few tips:

a) Choose your Subject line carefully — it’s the first thing they will see!
Make sure that the Subject reflects the contents of your message and that it doesn’t remind your subscribers of spam.

b) Do not write long email copy - go for “short and crisp”, then point to your website for more information;

c) Don’t repeat your website URL over and over again — you are more likely to get more complaints than more sales; once or twice is usually enough;

d) Write plain text messages instead of HTML enhanced messages;

e) Do not use “hash-busters” - i.e. special characters or punctuation entered in the attempt to fool the anti-spam systems (i.e. F’REE instead of FREE or v111agr^a instead of viagra);

f) Run a spam-check on your messages before you send them out and fix any problems that it detects;

4. Provide an easy way to unsubscribe.

Every email that you send out must contain an unsubscribe link at the bottom of your message.
The unsubscription process must be easy to follow and effortless, and must actually work. This may sound funny, but some of the unsubscribe systems I have seen had issues and some didn’t unsubscribe at all. Test your system thoroughly to make sure that it works.

You may use an outsourced email marketing solution such as GetResponse to automate email hygine, handling unsubscribes, bounce-backs, complaints etc.

5. Be cautious of lead providers.
Purchasing leads is popular among many marketers who use them to increase the size of their lists.

Unfortunately, many of lead generation companies resort to dirty tactics to increase their profitability at the expense of customers and their subscribers.

These include:

a) Sharing the same leads over and over again with multiple clients.

This not only significantly reduces the quality of the lead, but it also increases the chance that it will result in a spam complaint in the future. Quite simply, people who sign up for one publication, but start receiving email from 15 similar campaigns are very likely to complain — and for a reason.

b) “Bribing” people to subscribe
Another trick is “incentivizing” leads subscriptions, by offering the subscribers some form of compensation for filling out the form, such as a coupon, a chance to win something etc. This produces leads of inferior quality, because most of the subscribers are not genuinely interested in your publication, but are signing up solely for the incentive.

c) Pre-selecting signup forms
Some lead generating companies use lead generation forms with checkboxes that are pre-selected. This dilutes the list quality and results in spam complaints.

Purchasing leads carries a substantial risk for email marketers.
If you decide to purchase leads, here are a few questions that you may want to ask the supplier:

a) Are the leads generated specifically for me?

b) How are your leads generated? (ask for an example)

c) Is your lead generation process incentivized?

Remember — when it comes to lists it is always the quality that is important, and not the quantity. It is much better to have a small and responsive lists than a large, diluted list that is much more likely to generate complaints, spam accusations and customer support issues.
By outsourcing your email marketing to a reputable provider you will have saved yourself the hassle of dealing with all the issues associated with email hygiene.

5 Ways to Add Your Personality to Your Writing

One of the fastest ways to transform your website and promotional materials into a client magnet is to add your personality. (And yes, even if you're trying to build a business bigger than you personally, you still want to add your personality. People want to do business with people, not faceless, nameless corporations.) Now, there are a few ways to do this, including branding and graphics, but what I'm going to focus on in this article is how to do it through words.

Remember, the stronger your personality shows in your writing, the more loyal your customers and clients will be, and the more money you'll ultimately make.

So, here are 5 ways to add your personality to your writing:

1. Read more. The more you read, the more you'll learn how to express yourself in writing. Not only will you learn by example (especially if you read things by writers with very strong personalities) but you'll start to absorb ways to express yourself using words that you'll be able to transfer to your own writing.

2. Write more. Sorry, there's no getting around it. The more you do something, the better you'll get at it (and yes that includes writing). Start a blog, write articles for your website, write letters to your friends; it doesn't matter what it is but just start writing.

3. Keep a journal. I know this sounds like more writing (and technically it is) but it's a different kind of writing. It's more like exercising (okay, maybe that's not a great analogy either). Basically, journaling works because it gives your muse a way to "come out and play." And the more you can access your muse, the easier it will be to bring your personality out while you're writing.

When I say journal, what I mean is get out a pen and paper and start writing. Yes, I want you writing by hand. No computers. Something magical happens when you write by hand versus type. And just write about anything that comes up. (Nothing comes up? Write "I have nothing to say" until you find you DO have something to say.) Do this regularly and you'll be amazed at how much easier it gets to bring your personality into your writing.

4. Read out loud. This is a trick actors do. They read things out loud and listen to their breathing, their phrasing, etc. This is a great way to find your actual "voice" which you then can transfer to writing. You don't have to read things you've written either.

Read novels and nonfiction and articles and anything that strikes your fancy. And really listen to how you say it. Everyone reads things differently because you put your own personality into it, and that can translate into your writing.

5. Write in other people's voices. This is a trick artists do. When they learn to paint, they paint in the style of other great artists. By studying how other people paint, you'll pick up some of their techniques. You incorporate what works in your style and abandon what doesn't. And by studying other people's styles, you'll start to be able to break down your own style, and thus you'll understand how to strengthen it. You can use this for your writing.

Here's how you do it:

First, choose a writer whose style resonates with you.

Next, copy a passage they wrote word for word. You might want to do it a few times.

Then write something original, but do it in their style. Keep practicing until writing in their style becomes second nature. But this should strictly be an exercise. Don't try and copy other people's writing styles and pass them off as your own.

Not only will it come across as inauthentic and more likely turn off your target market, but depending on what you do, you could end up in legal trouble. Even if you only incorporate a few of these tips, you should start to see a shift in your own writing. Before you know it, your personality will be shining through, and with it, you'll start to see more clients, more sales and more profits.
